Getting a Fresh Start

by | Dec 5, 2023 | Mindset, Motivation, Personal Development

Contrary to popular belief, a fresh start doesn’t have to come on January 1st. It also doesn’t have to wait until after Labor Day, your birthday, or any other specific day of the year. In fact, you can decide right now, in this very moment, that you’re going to start with a clean slate toward your goals. A fresh start doesn’t depend on time, it depends on you.

Maybe you have goals you want to tackle in the office, or you want to start an exercise routine, or get organized at home. Whatever your goals are, take this as your sign that today is your day one. And we have all the tips and tricks to help you make your fresh start the best it can possibly be!

It starts with fresh perspective.

If you’re going into this new beginning with a negative mindset, you likely aren’t going to last very long. If you’re starting an exercise routine, for example, you could buy new workout clothes, have all the greatest equipment, and buy your favorite pre-workout, but if you’re constantly negative about exercise, you’ll probably give up pretty quickly. That’s what makes a positive outlook so important! If you’re a generally negative person (or if you’re quick to quit), here are a few ways to keep your positive mentality going strong:

  • Find a positive role model.
  • Challenge your negative thoughts (e.g., Replace “I can’t” with “I can.”)
  • Imagine the best version of yourself.
  • Go with the flow.

Sure, you may have times when you feel like giving up. In fact, you’ll probably experience a lot of those times. But keeping that positive mentality will help you fight through the hard stuff and create a routine that lasts!

Embrace change.

Change is scary in any capacity. Whether you could be changing jobs, moving across the country, or having your first baby, it takes bravery to walk into the unknown in any situation. The thing is, without change, a fresh start isn’t possible. So, it’s going to take a little bit of courage on your end to successfully switch things up.

The key is to approach this new season with optimism. Give yourself little things to look forward to along the way! If you’re learning to cook so that you don’t eat out as often, buy yourself some new kitchen essentials and make sure your pantry is fully stocked. If you’re looking to tackle a new project at work, get some new supplies and a planner to help you stay on track. While change often feels uncontrollable, remember that there are things you do have control over in the midst of instability.

It’s about the journey.

When starting fresh, it’s likely that you have an end goal in mind. And if you do, good for you! Having big goals is an awesome place to start. But, what about those little milestones that you pass along the way? You know, the ones that add up to your big end goals? Those are really important too … and they deserve to be recognized! The journey is more important than the destination. Celebrate those small wins along the way to your big goals!
